About the Role

Provide instruction at the professional level as a classroom teacher, team teacher, or remedial/special services teacher. Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional activities under established guidelines, including preparing yearly instructional outlines and daily lesson plans that cover relevant units of study and specify objectives, activities, and evaluative methods for both group and individual programs.

Responsibilities

• Teach students using appropriate instructional methods and techniques, utilizing available resources to ensure academic achievement.
• Develop and adapt learning experiences in assigned subject areas to foster cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills tailored to the needs and interests of all students.
• Continuously evaluate individual and group academic progress using criterion-referenced tests, standardized tests, oral tests, and other relevant evaluative methods.
• Implement alternative instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Prepare and deliver progress reports to parents and confer with parents and other concerned individuals regarding student behavior and progress.
• Maintain required records in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain classroom control and handle discipline independently, except for chronic or extreme behavior problems.
• Counsel individual students within established guidelines, using background information to provide an effective instructional and learning cycle.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered under the Military Selective Service Act.
• A background security investigation will be required for all new hires; appointment is contingent on successful completion and favorable adjudication.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Teacher licensure/certification in the State where the position is located and in the specialty field identified (Gifted & Talented). Emergency and provisional certificates may be accepted under conditions issued by the State certification authority.
• This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
• Probationary period of one academic year (two full semesters) during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
• Initial appointments under Public Law 95-561 do not confer competitive nor career status.
• May be required to operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle as an incidental duty; a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited education institution.
• Must submit a legible copy of transcripts (official or unofficial). Official transcripts are required upon selection.
• Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• For foreign education, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program.

Pay

Pay setting is based on degree and education credits, determined after the selection process. Pay tables for Bureau of Indian Education Title 25 positions are as follows:

• Pay Level 11: Bachelor’s Degree
• Pay Level 12: Bachelor’s Degree + 15 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 13: Bachelor’s Degree + 30 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 14: Master’s Degree
• Pay Level 15: Master’s Degree + 15 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 16: Master’s Degree + 30 graduate semester hours
• Pay Level 17: Earned Doctorate

Experience may be considered for determining pay increments for comparable experience. The per-hour rate may be modified based on the school calendar (Modified Hourly/Date Rate).

This position is covered by a bargaining unit (Federation of Indian Service Employees, American Federation of Teachers Local 4521) and is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Government quarters are available. Direct deposit of pay is required.
