Gifted and Talented Teacher

This position is remote and strongly prefers candidates that reside in Louisiana. Must be able to attend in-person professional development sessions, testing, and other school events.

The mission of Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for students by incorporating school and community/family partnerships coupled with a rigorous curriculum along with a data-driven and student-centered instructional model.

The Gifted Teacher is an advocate for the gifted/talented program within the school and greater community. The position provides resources and support including planning, coordination, education, and communication to all stakeholders—students, parents, educators, administrators, and board members—with the goal of optimizing programmatic channels and resources to contribute to the success of gifted and talented students.

This is a full-time remote position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9-5 or 8-4, or as defined by the school).

Responsibilities

• Provides enrichment experiences for gifted/talented students.
• Works with teachers in the classroom to provide specialized instruction and qualitatively differentiated programs for gifted/talented students.
• Provides resources for teachers working with gifted students.
• Serves as a resource for all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, and the community.
• Promotes staff participation in related professional development trainings.
• Remains abreast of current research, learning, and available resources in the field.
• Attends workshops and conferences as necessary to carry out job responsibilities.
• Ensures all exceptional student education and related services are provided as determined by the EP team by:
  • Communicating with parents and applicable related service staff to ensure students receive appropriate therapies.
  • Developing compliant EP’s, progress reports, and other state-specific required special education documentation.
  • Facilitating and leading collaborative exceptional student education meetings such as annual EP meetings.
• Collects data and work samples to monitor student progress toward Educational Plan (EP) goals and objectives.
• Documents all contact with parents and students.
• Analyzes student data to prescribe enrichment as needed.
• Provides rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
• Commits to personalizing learning for all students and demonstrates a belief in all students’ ability to succeed while maintaining high expectations.
• Maintains grade book, ensures student academic integrity, makes student placement and promotion decisions, and alerts administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
• Prepares students for high-stakes standardized tests.
• Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with and responds to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner.
• Supports learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, as well as basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures.
• Travels as required (on average once per month and/or approximately up to 20% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Active State Gifted Endorsement on teaching certificate.
• Ability to clear required background check.
• Appropriate state Department of Education Teaching Certification with Gifted Endorsement.

Qualifications

• Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions.
• Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators.
• Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, qualifications, work location, expected quality and quantity of work, and required travel when determining salary. The anticipated salary range for this position is $50,573.00 - $65,000.00. Eligible employees may receive a bonus.
