Gifted and Talented Teacher

Starting salary: $48,967.10. This is a 190-day, state Teachers Retirement System position within the AEA collective bargaining unit.

Qualifications

• Valid Gifted Education licensure in the State of Ohio OR ability to obtain a Gifted Education Supplemental licensure within 60 days (must renew the Supplemental license annually) and add the Gifted Education Endorsement to your Ohio license within two years of the start date.
• Proper licensure for the specific assignment.
• Desired: Master’s degree and/or evidence of comparable ongoing certified professional development.
• Minimum of three years of successful experience teaching gifted students.
• Experience in an urban setting and with diverse social, cultural, and economic student populations.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with administrators, staff, parents, students, and the community.
• Plan and develop new educational initiatives.
• Commit to best practices and research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Assist students in meeting or exceeding 21st-century knowledge and skills, including state academic achievement standards.
• Articulate clear learning objectives and guide students toward achieving curriculum goals.
• Plan and deliver learning experiences tailored to each student’s needs; provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Design authentic learning experiences focused on core knowledge, 21st-century skills, and literacies.
• Organize and plan instruction based on subject matter, student needs, community context, and curriculum goals.
• Assist in planning enrichment for ELA and math to help all students master content standards.
• Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies for academic growth.
• Use technology to build student content knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, innovation, and collaboration skills.
• Use technology as an instructional and management tool.
• Use continuous, authentic, and evidence-based assessment to improve instruction and provide feedback.
• Participate in ongoing professional development, including professional learning communities.
• Maintain and improve professional competence through evidence-based and best practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction and learning while sharing responsibility for outcomes.
• Use a variety of communication methods and technologies to interact with students, parents, and staff.
• Contribute to public presentations.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Assist in implementing student life and conduct policies across school campuses.
• Develop and enforce reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Work in collaboration with the district Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
• Report to and be supervised by the school principal.
