About the role

The Organization Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency dedicated to providing families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. HSA was founded in Bell Gardens in 1940 and today serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services addressing the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement activities aligned with school readiness goals using High/Scope Curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans and learning goals.
  • Supervise and coordinate curriculum activities.
  • Conduct and coordinate small and large group activities.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment using Conscious Discipline.
  • Encourage exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, and choice-making.
  • Follow consistent schedules with varied learning experiences.
  • Record observations using Learning Genie.
  • Ensure culturally sensitive, anti-biased curriculum.
  • Complete screenings (ASQ-3, ASQ:SE), DRDP 2015, and evaluations.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years experience with children, ages 0-5, in a group care setting (350) days of three hours or within four years, must include at least 100 days of supervising adults in a child care and development program.
  • Knowledge in Child growth and development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise a child development center.
  • Principles of Supervision, Training and Performance Evaluation.
  • Knowledgeable in the implementation of education program policies and procedures.
  • Ability to train and supervise associate teachers and volunteers.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, and those with disabilities and special needs.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and in a timely manner.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Organized and able to successfully meet daily objectives; have the ability to lead team atmosphere; have mediation and negotiation skills; possess effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing using correct English (spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation).
  • Effective oral and written communication; Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in related field with 24 units of ECE including 3 Infant/Toddler Units, and possession of an Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with infants and toddlers.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations and other State and Federal Regulations.
