Purpose Statement
The Teacher Associate position provides support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for facilitating student success in academic areas; supervising students within the learning lab and other assigned areas; delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with teachers, professional staff, and administrators; and responding to parent or guardian inquiries regarding student progress.
Responsibilities
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, teachers, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, and parents to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and address personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods for classroom and subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student needs.
- Manages student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in educational environments (e.g., learning lab, classroom, campus) to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
- Participates in meetings to convey and gather information required for job functions.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to education code and school policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues, provide information, or offer direction.
- Supports classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
- Tutors students to improve academic success.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Skills: Applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment and software; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge: Education codes, policies, regulations, and laws; age-appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; child development stages; behavioral management strategies.
- Abilities: Establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; working flexible hours.
Qualifications
- Any teaching certificate at any grade level (excluding PK).
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
