About the role
Under the general supervision of the special education teacher, the special education teacher assistant supports the implementation of student IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) by assisting the teacher in five areas of service: instructional support, management and supervision support, personal support, assessment support, and materials management.
This is a classified, 9-month position with a schedule of 5.9 hours per day.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support to students as outlined in their IEPs.
- Assist with classroom management and supervision of students.
- Offer personal support to students with special needs.
- Support assessment activities as directed by the special education teacher.
- Manage and organize instructional materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
- District inservice training (required after hiring).
- Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
- Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
- Skills required depend on the assignment, student needs, IEP, and procedures of the supervising professional.
Qualifications for Title One Schools
- Equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full-time education at an institution of higher education; or
- An associate's degree; or
- Ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.
Pay
Salary Grade 7 - $20.98 per hour (Support Salary Table 2026-2027). Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase.
