Teacher Assistant, Bethesda Learning Academy

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Operations Director, Program Director, and/or Head Teacher, the employee will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing daily activities for the Sharing Center. The role includes general supervision of children ranging from 4 weeks to school age, with smaller class sizes.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Pass a Central Registry Check for child abuse/neglect
• Speak, read, and write the English language
• Education: High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent)
• One to three months related experience and/or training is preferred

Schedule

Full‑time or part‑time positions available. Shifts vary within operating hours of 6:00 am – 6:00 pm, with breaks.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model and representative of Bethesda Sharing Center
• Arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance
• Remain flexible with assignments and schedules
• Stay calm in tense situations
• Work with up to 10–20 children of varying personalities throughout the day
• Assist in fundraising and program activities
• Attend and contribute to all staff meetings
• Report any complaints heard from families or staff to the Director and/or Program Director
• Help with daily cleaning of toys, shelves, etc.
• Report and refer problem resolution to the Operations Director and/or Program Director
• Interact tactfully with co‑workers, supervisors, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public
• Follow established department and facility policies and procedures
• Work harmoniously with staff in all departments
• Establish and maintain relationships of trust and cooperation with co‑workers and families
• Share resources and information pertinent to childcare with co‑workers
• Support co‑workers in meeting their professional needs and development
• Make new staff members feel welcome and included
