Teacher Aide

About the Role

The teacher’s aide plays a vital role in supporting the academic program and fostering a productive classroom environment. The aide is expected to consistently exhibit spiritual maturity, humility, and grace while participating in school activities such as Matins, staff meetings, and assemblies. Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential for interactions with teachers, students, peers, and parents.

The relational covenant emphasizes mutual respect: think the best of others, speak directly to (not about) one another, and address concerns with the supervising teacher or principal as needed. Confidentiality regarding staff or students must be maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher as a loving and consistent disciplinarian in upholding school rules and policies.
• Support the classroom teacher in creating and maintaining a productive learning environment.
• Arrive by 7:45 AM to assist with student arrival and prepare classroom materials for morning activities.
• Perform administrative tasks such as cutting, pasting, copying, filing, and assembling materials for the teacher.
• Attend Matins/Chapels with the class (including Pre3s when developmentally ready).
• Work with small groups throughout the day as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with lunch duties, off-campus activities, and student needs (e.g., bathroom assistance, sick children).
• Monitor nap time, occasionally read to students, and prepare student materials (e.g., stuffing PIFs into backpacks).
• Ensure all parent correspondence is approved by the classroom teacher; only teachers discuss negative behavior with parents.
• Maintain classroom organization by cleaning tables, putting away materials, and wiping surfaces after use.
• Share routine cleaning duties with the teacher after dismissal, ensuring the room is thoroughly cleaned before leaving.
• Substitute for the teacher when absent (a substitute will cover the aide position for that day).
• Assist with rest mats, snacks, and end-of-day classroom cleanup.
• Monitor students during dismissal and support the teacher during lessons when requested.
• Help students during presentations (e.g., recitation, show-and-tell) and redirect unkind behavior.
• Prepare materials for lessons (e.g., handwriting pages, math activities) and change bulletin boards as directed.
• Follow the school’s Safety Manual for all protocols.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements

• Able to sit, talk, hear, and maintain awareness of classroom visitors.
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Able to stand for extended periods as needed.
• Able to work at a desk or computer for extended periods.
• Able to bend, reach, and occasionally use a ladder.
