Responsibilities
- Maintain an organized, quiet, and distraction-free environment for students requiring testing accommodations, including extended time, separate settings, or small group settings.
- Accurately track student attendance, start/end times, and accommodation usage for compliance, ensuring all paperwork is submitted promptly.
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment that minimizes anxiety, while assisting students with focus and navigating digital, assistive technology.
- Work in several classrooms throughout the day to support student learning.
- Strictly adhere to student privacy regulations (FERPA) and school policies regarding student records and behavioral management.
- Oversee students in completing assigned projects.
- Assist the teacher in recording grades and marks.
- Proctor and otherwise help to conduct examinations.
- Assist the teacher in correcting test papers, themes, and essays.
- Manage records, materials, and equipment.
- Supervise students doing remedial work directed by the teacher.
- Assist in preparing bulletin boards, teacher aids, and organization of necessary materials.
- Assist in operating audio-visual equipment when required.
- Arrange for films and projectors, as well as ordering other related equipment and supplies.
- Read in a foreign language from prepared scripts for tape recording purposes.
- Assist in overseeing technical operations of language laboratory equipment.
- Help to set up science laboratory equipment, conduct experiments, and perform limited review of student laboratory reports.
- Help in the technical preparation and production of television programs.
- Read to and play records for children in primary grades.
- Provide piano, violin, or other musical accompaniment.
- Assist teachers in the supervision of students and perform other support services which are determined and supervised by teachers.
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Services/Building Principal or his/her designee.
Requirements
- High school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
- Must meet Civil Service requirements in job title.
- Eager and able to work well among a team of professionals.
- Flexible with assignments and changing roles to meet building and student needs.
- Strong communication to best support students.
- Willingness to learn new tasks.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; or
- Four (4) years of experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
*Special Requirement: When assigned responsibilities in Physical Education, candidate will be required to have completed an approved American Red Cross (ARC) lifeguard training program or other approved lifeguard training program as stipulated by the New York State Sanitary Code in addition to ARC Basic Life Support for the professional rescuer, cardiopulmonary resuscitation or a CPR equivalent. CPR certificate must be renewed annually.

Pay
Salary range: Negotiated C.S.E.A. Contract ($17.72 to $20.27/hour).
