Teacher Aide

Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher Aide (Kaiāwhina mō te akoranga) to support an ākonga (student) in their home-based learning in Papatoetoe. This part-time role for 10 hours per week offers the opportunity to play a key role in a professional team, providing tailored learning support that empowers ākonga to reach their goals.

Responsibilities

• Support ākonga with their learning, as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
• Assist Kaiako (teachers) in delivering lessons and adapting materials to meet individual learning needs.
• Provide one-on-one or small group support to help ākonga achieve their learning goals.
• Support ākonga to engage in online learning and use assistive technology where required.
• Encourage positive engagement by fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor progress, provide feedback to Kaiako, and keep accurate records.
• Attend team meetings, professional development, and support learning events or activities.

Requirements

• Experience as a Teacher Aide or in a similar role supporting ākonga with special educational needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills to connect with ākonga, Kaiako, and whānau.
• Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for supporting students to succeed.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Confidence using a computer and online learning tools.
• A commitment to cultural responsiveness and supporting diverse learners.

Pay

A competitive hourly rate ranging from $27.25 to $34.06, aligned with the Teacher Aide Pay Equity Settlement (as per the Teacher Aide Work Matrix). The final rate will be determined based on ākonga learning needs and your unique combination of experience and skills.
