About the role

The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (IRL) is seeking a dedicated Teacher Aide to join our teaching team at Almansor Academy in South Pasadena. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young learners while working alongside a supportive and collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a structured environment focusing on the whole child’s development (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
  • Support students with exceptional needs to access and engage in their curriculum or school activities.
  • Supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
  • Work with teachers to review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas as appropriate.
  • Support students in and through learning breakdowns by reinforcing lessons, using positive behavior strategies, de-escalation techniques, and other tools.
  • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of students by being aware of the environment and potential student actions.
  • Participate in special programs with a student as required.
  • Assist in directing group activities of students.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Complete and pass a job-related health screening.
  • Willing to participate and complete an in-house, 10-week training program.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates (can be provided via in-house training).
  • Access to a mobile phone (for email) & basic internet (if working offsite).
  • Clear a current background check through the FBI & DOJA and current TB test (within 2 months).

Qualifications

  • Frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking, and standing.
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, and move objects, e.g., student desks, chairs, and boxes.
  • Physical management skills including physically prompting, escorting, and containing students.

SkillsStrong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors effectively.
  • Knowledge of educational methodologies and behavior intervention systems.

    Pay

    $18.75 to $20.62/hr* Salary range is contingent upon relatable experience, credentialing/certification, education, and use of a second language in your role (50% of the time).

    Full-time position.
