30 hours per week, 10 months per school year. Initial hours of assignment: 8:00 am – 2:30 pm (includes ½ hour unpaid lunch).
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care to students including toileting
- Lifting may be involved
- Work in life skills classrooms, job coaching, or with special needs students
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers
- Flexibility to work with students and adults in different classrooms
- Take initiative and help teacher prepare and set up
- Reinforce lessons and provide students assistance
- Enforce classroom and school rules, including bus duty and cafeteria duty
- Help to meet the needs of all students
- Work in several classrooms throughout the day
- Familiar with and contributes to the successful implementation of the District's Mission and Belief statements
- Oversee students in completing assigned projects
- Assist the teacher in recording grades and marks
- Proctor and help conduct examinations
- Assist in correcting test papers, themes, and essays
- Manage records, materials, and equipment
- Supervise students doing remedial work directed by teacher
- Assist in preparing bulletin boards, teacher aids, and organization of necessary materials
- Operate audio-visual equipment when required
- Arrange for films, projectors, and related equipment and supplies
- Read in a foreign language from prepared scripts for tape recording purposes
- Oversee technical operations of language laboratory equipment
- Set up science laboratory equipment, conduct experiments, and perform limited review of student laboratory reports
- Assist in the technical preparation and production of television programs
- Read to and play records for children in primary grades
- Provide piano, violin, or other musical accompaniment
- Assist teachers in the supervision of students and perform other support services determined and supervised by teachers
- Other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or designee

- Ability to gain and hold the confidence of and maintain a patient and understanding attitude towards school children
- Ability to maintain order in classrooms and enforce school regulations with firmness
- Familiarity with classroom routine
- Good background or knowledge in specific field where specialized duties are involved
- Resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to teaching process
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Neat personal appearance

Pay
Starting pay rate: $18.90/hour. Hourly stipends apply as follows:
- Split aide (assigned to both general education & PPS aide duties); UPK aide; Literacy aide; Primary Project aide; Health aide; Attendance aide: +$0.50/hour
- PPS aide; job coach aide: +$1.50/hour
