About the Role

DYS is seeking a Teacher 1 (Science) to oversee facility behavioral healthcare functions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion to habilitate youth. Specifically, the Teacher 1 (Science) will instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) in academic Science programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services which implement the DYS educational mission.
  • Analyze records to identify students' immediate and long-range needs (e.g., utilize student analysis results and approved course of study to develop lesson plans for assignments and activities which meet identified students' needs).
  • Provide individualized instruction and assistance.
  • Administer, score, and interpret examination and proficiency indicators.
  • Counsel students concerning their performance, behavior, and/or personal problems.
  • Conduct on-going assessment of student progress to update records of students' needs and corresponding instructional and training programs.
  • Counsel students regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Document student progress (e.g., maintain students' performance reports for use in planning institutional, transitional, and community services for youth).
  • Participate in institutional treatment activities.
  • Care for and maintain all classroom equipment and learning aides.
  • Prepare budgetary proposals; research, select, recommend, and requisition new educational resources (e.g., textbooks, learning aides).
  • Maintain necessary inventories and order supplies and materials needed.
  • Prepare and maintain required records (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress) and submit reports as required (e.g., attendance, grades, discipline).
  • Attend a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment teams, student interviews).
  • Maintain professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops, and formal education programs.

Qualifications

  • Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for science and grade level to be assigned.
  • Teacher 1, 71281, must also have baccalaureate degree or less.

Schedule

Full-time; work hours 7 am - 3 pm. Classified indicator: Classified. Union: OEA/Scope.
