About the Role

This position works under general direction and requires considerable knowledge of teacher education. Provides instruction in basic education needs (e.g., reading, writing, mathematics) to inmates at Southeastern Correctional Institution.

Responsibilities

• Assesses educational needs of inmates
• Develops lesson plans to address those needs to include individual assignments and training
• Provides instruction and individual assistance
• Administers, scores and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators
• Maintains discipline and/or security
• Counsels students concerning their performance, behavior and/or personal problems
• Attends meetings as required
• Prepares required records and reports (e.g., enrollment, grades, student progress)
• Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed
• Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials
• Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for grade level and area of specialization to be assigned
• Teacher 1, 71111: must also have baccalaureate degree or less
