About the Role

The TDOC Instructor delivers individualized instruction to incarcerated individuals, providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to reenter society as productive citizens. This role requires strong communication, instructional, and advisory skills to support adult learners in achieving their goals pursuing high school equivalency, employment, or postsecondary opportunities. This position collaborates with a dedicated team to provide academic and workforce-readiness programming.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Instruction: Develops and implements engaging lesson plans using differentiated instruction to meet diverse student needs in both group and individual settings that align with academic standards.
  • Assess and Support Student Progress: Prepares, administers, and analyzes formative and summative assessments to determine instructional levels, appropriate class placement, and diploma attainment in compliance with state and institutional policies and guidelines.
  • Manage Classroom and Training Environments: Establishes and maintains a safe, orderly, and disciplined learning environment; enforces tool control, equipment procedures, and safety protocols in classrooms, shops, and work sites in accordance with TDOC policy and applicable regulations.
  • Support Student Success: Provides individualized academic and motivational support to help students overcome barriers, achieve educational goals, and prepare for employment or post-secondary transitions.
  • Coordinate Testing and Data Reporting: Oversees scheduling, administration, and compliance of testing activities; accurately enters student information into the Offender Management System.
  • Collaborate and Communicate Effectively: Works collaboratively with counselors, facility staff, security personnel, and education teams to support student success and improve program quality; participates in advisory committee meetings, professional development sessions, audits, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Engage in Professional Development: Participates in ongoing training and professional learning to enhance professional competence and remain current with best practices in adult education.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
