TDCJ - Substance Abuse Counselor III - Addiction S

Applicants must submit both a résumé and a completed application to be considered. Both documents should include sufficient work history to assess qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced specialized substance use and substance use disorder assessments in compliance with substance use treatment program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Assist in substance use treatment programs.
• Coordinate with other departments, divisions, and agencies for the delivery of treatment services to inmates with histories of substance use, abuse, and/or addiction.
• Conduct Addiction Severity Index testing.

Requirements

You’d be a GOOD fit if you meet the following:

• Detail-oriented.
• Experience in substance use treatment.
• Current valid license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services, or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, or a current qualifying credential to conduct counseling in a treatment environment.

You’d be a GREAT fit if you also have:

• Familiarity with substance use screening tools, assessments, and treatment programs.
• Experience working with incarcerated individuals.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, the disease model of addiction, co-dependency, related disorders, counseling, and recovery.

Additional Information

• No travel required; position may make day trips but no overnight trips.
