About the role
Performs highly advanced managerial legal work. The Deputy General Counsel supervises a team of attorneys, mid-level professional staff, and supports operational components of TDCJ through legal guidance on cross‑functional matters. The position provides strategic leadership and legal expertise in TDCJ’s legal operations, reporting to the Chief Deputy General Counsel and overseeing a broad portfolio of litigation and non‑litigation matters, including administrative, constitutional, tort, contracts and procurement, employment, public information/open government, legislative review and implementation, and general governance topics. The role involves daily interaction with external agency partners and extensive interaction with TDCJ executive leadership.
