About the role

Join the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Office of Air as a professional engineer, contributing to the protection and restoration of Texas’ air quality. External candidates selected for this role may receive a $5,000 recruitment bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Review advanced and high-profile air permit applications, ensuring high-quality work and meeting established timeframes.
  • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews, including defining contaminant sources, applying federal and state requirements, reviewing emission calculations, drafting permit documents, and completing technical review summaries.
  • Prepare public notice authorizations and associated tasks.
  • Provide quality customer service to applicants, agency staff, other state/federal agencies, elected officials, stakeholders, and the public regarding permitting processes and technical completeness.
  • Provide highly technical support on policies and procedures related to the air permitting program.
  • Lead and attend technical training activities for major and minor permit reviews.
  • Participate in division, section, and team meetings.
  • Coordinate and manage special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience communicating, both written and verbally, with senior leadership.
  • Experience preparing and conducting presentations and training.
  • Texas Professional Engineer’s license plus five years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure (post-licensure experience as an engineering graduate student or teacher qualifies).
  • OR one year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer V.

A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials may be required to verify qualifications.

Schedule

Standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; individual and work group schedules are set by the TCEQ Austin Headquarters Office.
