This position supports the space program at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Responsibilities
- Interpret, organize, and coordinate assignments; plan and develop Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) engineering and assurance activities that may impact major programs.
- Prepare, evaluate, and assess in-house and contracted quality-related documentation, including implementation of procedures.
- Perform reviews and assessments of QA/QE documentation for compliance with NASA policy, Marshall Management System (MMS), and S&MA Directorate Organizational Instructions.
- Support preparation, evaluation, and assessment of documentation and processes for manufacturing, inspection, and test phases of programs and projects.
- Participate in Government milestone reviews to evaluate certification requirements affecting design, safety, production, testing, and operation.
- Develop and utilize tools to ensure all applicable quality requirements are identified for MSFC programs and projects.
- Perform drawing and procurement documentation review.
- Evaluate test results, including disposition of test anomalies and discrepancies.
- Support Material Review Board (MRB) and participate in corrective action activities to improve product quality.
- Participate in problem and failure investigations to determine root causes.
- Provide support in all quality areas, including Quality Plans, Surveillance Plans, Inspection Instructions, First Article Inspections, and Non-Conformance (NC) resolutions.
- Perform support for Quality Process assessments as required.
- Develop metrics as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer-related information.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma with 11+ years of recent and related work experience will be considered.
- 7+ years of recent and related work experience.
- Knowledge of NASA Spacecraft S&MA requirements for manufacturing processes in support of the design and development of flight hardware.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 quality system requirements.
- Ability to read complex blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS).
- Strong team player with a solid work ethic and culture-oriented mindset.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal and external customers.
- Ability to follow company programs, processes, procedures, and requirements.
- Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work outside normal schedules and adjust to peak periods or surge requirements.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Thermal Protection System, Thrust Vector Controls, or Acceptance Data Package.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and as a stand-alone subject matter expert.
- Experience working with aerospace flight hardware in a manufacturing and production environment.
Work Environment
- Generally an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
- Position is located onsite at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans, Louisiana; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
