About the role
As a Quality Engineer, you will plan, implement, and control methods, equipment, procedures, and costs to monitor and ensure product quality in alignment with the Plant Quality Manager and Corporate Directives. Your work will span receiving inspection, final inspection, audit inspection, and related areas.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning product quality goals and objectives.
- Establish and implement procedures for inspecting products, materials, and processes at various manufacturing stages.
- Define standards for product and material acceptance based on customer feedback.
- Ensure timely notification of process material discrepancies to responsible parties.
- Maintain adequate inspection records.
- Assist with corrective actions for repetitive quality problems.
- Train others on quality standards and processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage non-conforming material activities, including containment, rework, and product release.
- Analyze customer complaint reports and internal failure reports to identify root causes.
- Implement permanent corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
- Supervise Quality Assurance Technicians and related staff as needed.
- Provide precision measuring instruments, methods, and procedures for manufacturing areas.
- Assist with internal and external supplier quality issues, including facility visits when required.
- Perform process capability studies and measurement system analysis to solve problems.
- Write objective reports using statistical data analysis techniques.
- Act as a Representative for the Quality Management System when required.
- Support production document creation, management, and control (e.g., work instructions, job instructions, prints).
- Promote lean manufacturing concepts by identifying and reducing waste.
- Collaborate with management, engineering, and other staff on production capabilities, scheduling, and customer needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial) or a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with manufacturing and metrology processes (preferred but not required).
- Ability to supervise Quality Assurance Technicians and advise on Quality Assurance procedures.
- Specialized knowledge of S.P.C. concepts, including performing and interpreting gage R&Rs or MSEs.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma tools, including Design of Experiments.
- Knowledge of APQPs, FMEAs, and PPAPs.
- Proficiency in document software such as Google Workspace or MS Office products.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal and external partners, including engineering, production teams, suppliers, and site management.
Pay
Base salary range: $60,000 – $85,000 per year, plus potential annual bonus based on performance metrics. Actual pay determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and work location.
Schedule
This is an onsite position located in Madison, South Dakota. No travel is required except for potential periodic visits to the Yankton, South Dakota plant.
