TCEQ - Engineer III

What You'll Be Doing

• Conduct in-office and/or on-site engineering and technical reviews, analyses, quality control, and evaluations of routine to highly complex information from internal and external customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; and follow up with appropriate actions.
• Provide information and engineering assistance concerning requests and submittals from wastewater systems to internal and external customers through verbal communication, email, correspondence, meetings, on-site assistance, and presentations.
• Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency's wastewater program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests (PIRs).
• Provide training and mentoring to other staff.
• Serve as a subject matter expert engineer for assigned programs/topics.
• Plan and/or participate in special projects, such as serving as an owner of standard operating procedures (SOPs), updating, or developing a guidance document and working on Section/Division business process improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Experience with analyzing engineering design, maintenance, administration, and operations of wastewater systems.
• Experience performing wastewater system analyses, such as evaluation of wastewater quality, wastewater chemistry and microbiology, or wastewater treatment processes.
• Experience preparing reports, correspondence, and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working for or with wastewater systems.
• Experience processing, analyzing, interpreting, and managing large data sets used for improving scientific processes, providing technical assistance and recommendations.

Required Education & Experience

• Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.
• Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
• One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.

Career Ladder Progression

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. The ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Water Supply Division.
