TAX TECHNICIAN I, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

About the role

Under the close supervision of the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) I, the Tax Technician (TT) I performs the less complex technical duties and support functions for the unit. This may include, but is not limited to, applying laws, rules and policies relating to the California Department of Tax & Fee Administration’s (CDTFA) programs, issuing permits, performing account maintenance, initiating contact with taxpayers about delinquencies, accessing taxpayer information, processing incoming and outgoing mail, which may include payments, and sensitive or confidential mail and/or material. Travel may be required up to five percent (5%) of the time for training purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Apply laws, rules and policies relating to CDTFA programs
  • Issue permits
  • Perform account maintenance
  • Initiate contact with taxpayers about delinquencies
  • Access taxpayer information
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, which may include payments and sensitive or confidential mail and/or material

Requirements

  • Position requires employees to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation
  • Position may require overnight travel for up to five (5) consecutive nights to meet training requirements
  • This employer participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.

Pay

  • $3,480.00 - $4,357.00 (Range A)
  • $3,742.00 - $4,677.00 (Range B)
  • New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable

Schedule

  • Permanent, Full Time
  • Hybrid (eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California; all telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week; schedules subject to change)
  • Per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program
