Tax Specialist
About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Tax Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will oversee sales tax compliance (using Avalara), support income tax organization, and assist with tax planning activities. You’ll collaborate closely with internal accounting staff and external CPAs to ensure timely and accurate filings while optimizing our overall tax position.
Responsibilities
- Manage sales tax compliance processes using Avalara, including: Monitoring nexus thresholds, Ensuring accurate tax rates on transactions, Filing and remitting sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, Maintain and organize documentation for federal, state, and local income taxes, Prepare and compile data packages for external accountants and tax advisors
- Support quarterly and annual tax provision processes
- Assist with tax planning strategies to reduce liabilities and ensure compliance
- Maintain tax calendars and ensure all deadlines are met
- Support audits or inquiries from tax authorities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in tax compliance, preferably with sales/use tax
- Familiarity with Avalara or similar sales tax software strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of U.S. tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external accountants
- Proficiency in Excel and general ledger/accounting software
- CPA or working toward CPA designation
- Experience in a multi-state tax environment
- Exposure to tax planning or strategy projects

Pay
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is: $60,000/year - $100,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations. For Colorado, the salary range is: $65,000 - $85,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. This salary range is a good faith estimate of what Vetcove may pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
