Tax Senior, Dealerships
About the role
We’re looking for a talented and motivated Tax Senior to join the dealership practice of a fast-growing, innovative professional advisory firm. Automotive retail is one of the deepest specialties at TSS, and this role sits at the center of it — working with dealer principals, their controllers, and their office staff across multi-entity ownership groups, related real estate holdings, and the family trusts that sit alongside them. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, entrepreneurial CPA with a team mentality and strong technical accounting and tax knowledge. Prior dealership experience is a meaningful advantage, but we will invest in a strong tax senior who wants to build that specialization with us.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal, state, and multi-state tax returns for dealership entities, affiliated real estate entities, and dealer principals
- Work with dealership-specific tax matters including LIFO inventory computations, floor plan interest and business interest limitations, and cost segregation on dealership facilities
- Interpret dealership financial statements and factory statements, and reconcile them to the tax return
- Assist in ongoing tax planning and tax projections for ownership groups in accordance with firm and professional standards as directed by engagement leaders
- Coordinate directly with dealership controllers and office managers to gather information and resolve open items
- Communicate efficiently and effectively with our team on client issues that arise, and ensure deliverable deadlines are met
- Research tax law updates and industry developments affecting automotive retail
- Research tax issues, provide recommendations to the team, and ensure compliance with regulations
Requirements
- 3+ years with a public accounting firm preparing and reviewing individual and business income tax returns
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Comfort working with multi-entity client groups and consolidated ownership structures
- Strong attention to detail
- Integrity within a professional environment
Preferences
- Experience serving automotive, truck, or equipment dealerships, including LIFO and factory statement exposure
- Experience with CCH Axcess tax, CCH Pfx Engagement, and QuickBooks
- Familiarity with dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Dealertrack)
- Active CPA or EA
