Tax Processing Associate
US Base Salary Range: $56,900.00 – $74,000.00. Base pay offered to new hires may vary based on relevant industry and job-related skills, experience, geographic location, and business needs. This range does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression. The role may also be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission or bonus, and/or equity grants.
About the role
The Tax Processing Associate is responsible for preparing and filing sales and use tax returns for level 1-2 clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standard tax regulations. This individual contributor role supports senior TPS staff, fosters client relationships through regular communication, and maintains high client satisfaction by delivering timely, precise filings and responsive support. The Tax Processing Associate receives structured mentoring and begins to participate in peer support activities, contributing to a collaborative and client-focused team environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare an average of 600+ sales and use tax returns monthly for level 1-2 clients, using established best practices and compliance standards.
- Communicate regularly with clients via phone and email to address questions, provide updates, and maintain strong relationships.
- Review client tax data for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and take corrective action as needed.
- Format and import monthly tax data into Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (VITR) software; experience with VITR is a plus.
- Initiate and process electronic filings and payments, ensuring timely submission.
- Provide support for online filings, payments, and notices, including responding to tax authority communications.
- Collaborate with senior TPS staff to resolve complex issues and support higher-level filings.
- Maintain and update client tax compliance reports and documentation.
- Participate in structured mentoring and begin peer support activities.
- Accommodate additional work hours during peak monthly processing periods (typically the 5th–20th of each month).
- Perform other duties and participate in projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 2–5 years of related experience in tax processing, accounting, or business.
- No certifications required; tax-related certifications are encouraged.
Skills
- Familiarity with standard tax compliance regulations for level 1-2 clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft tools; experience with VITR software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
