Job Summary

The Tax Managing Director, Global Tax Outsourcing will lead project services, manage personal client relationships, and support business development.

Job Duties

  • Tax Consulting
    • Develops, recommends, and implements practical international tax consulting ideas related to client situations
    • Identifies and resolves complex taxation issues by applying multiple tax functional specialties
    • Communicates complex technical matters to clients and other appropriate audiences to ensure relevant issues are understood and resolved
  • Tax Specialization
    • Builds and manages strong relationships with clients through regular visits and communication
    • Maintains and updates client account plans to ensure client satisfaction, retention, and expansion of services
    • Manages projects across all lines of business, including financial and inter-country projects
    • Continuously develops an in-depth understanding of international tax issues
    • Manages international tax services provided to assigned clients, including assessment of appropriate pricing structures
    • Identifies and collaborates on tax alerts in areas of specialty
  • Tax Compliance
    • Conducts detailed review of international tax aspects of U.S. tax reporting and other client-supplied data
    • Identifies and addresses complex and advanced issues throughout the engagement
    • Leverages compliance role to identify additional tax issues and opportunities
    • Acts as a client advocate and strategic resource for overall client issues in areas such as billing, legal, policy, country tax issues, payroll management operations, and systems
  • Marketing and Business Development
    • Manages RFPs for account renegotiations, including fee structure and presentations
    • Exhibits thought leadership in a specialized area within international tax
    • Works with Tax Services and International Tax Partners, Local Office Managing Partner, and local and regional Business Development Managers to develop and execute an effective marketing plan
    • Builds effective go-to-market strategies with Assurance Partners
  • Research
    • Identifies trends, best practices, and opportunities for tax consulting, written analysis, and recommendations for cost-effective client solutions
    • Analyzes researched facts and sources to compose detailed reports of research findings
  • Risk & Compliance
    • Manages risk and compliance in line with BDO USA and client policies
    • Maintains highest level of confidentiality and discretion
    • Reviews international aspects of tax provisions, coordinating with BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictions
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Supervises the day-to-day workload of GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns on assigned engagements
    • Delivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns
    • Acts as mentor to GTO Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates and Interns, as appropriate

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Bachelor’s degree, required; focus in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, or Finance, preferred
    • MST/MBT, preferred
    • Experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree (LLM) program, required
    • Experience in international tax, required
    • Negotiation experience, required
    • Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required
    • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred
    • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preferred
    • Experience utilizing BNA, CCH, and/or other search engines, preferred
    • Language proficiency in more than one language, preferred
