Tax Manager - SALT - Income
About the role
Managers within our State & Local Tax (SALT) practice oversee and deliver income and franchise tax engagements, providing strategic tax planning and consulting services to a wide range of clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage state income and franchise tax engagements, including compliance oversight, tax provision support, audits, and controversy matters.
- Analyze multi-state tax issues such as apportionment, allocation, combined reporting, and nexus determinations.
- Review and advise on state tax positions, including filing methodologies, credit utilization, and restructuring opportunities.
- Provide strategic guidance on the state tax impact of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and business expansions.
- Monitor state legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on client tax positions.
- Engage in business development activities (prepare proposals, present webinars, and collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated tax strategies).
- Research complex state tax issues and prepare technical memoranda, opinions, and planning recommendations.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure high-quality service, timely delivery, and proactive tax planning.
- Identify opportunities to minimize state income/franchise tax liabilities and enhance compliance processes.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of Seniors and Associates.
Requirements
- 4+ years relevant work experience in an accounting firm
- Bachelor’s and/or advanced degree; Accounting, Finance, Economics or related degree (Preferred)
- Advanced credential allowing for client representation before the Internal Revenue Service required (i.e. CPA or JD)
- Self-starter with the initiative to seek out opportunities and ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Proficient use of technology
Compensation and Benefits
Our firm offers competitive base compensation, benefits package, and a discretionary employee bonus program for eligible employees based on individual and firm performance metrics per the defined program guidelines. For individuals hired to work in Seattle, the expected salary range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000; the actual salary offer can vary based upon employee qualifications.
