About the role
We are seeking a Tax Manager for our Personal Tax Advisory Group in one of our Northeast Ohio offices: Cleveland, Akron, or Wooster. The Tax Manager will specialize in personal and fiduciary tax, overseeing all facets of client engagements, supervising staff, and directing the day-to-day progress of the engagement. This role is designed for professionals preparing to assume increasing responsibility, handle more complex client assignments, and begin developing client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of tax law, regulations, and complex tax issues, with research and analytical skills as a major component of the role.
- Provide advice to firm members and consult directly with clients regarding tax issues.
- Apply appropriate accounting and tax theory during engagements to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Direct the overall progress of larger tax return projects and tax research, including planning, organization, delegation, and coordination of work.
- Identify problems or opportunities for improvement in clients’ systems, procedures, or business operations.
- Coordinate staff to resolve tax-related issues and ensure effective communication within the engagement team.
- Assist with and lead engagement planning, outlining major issues, and determining needs for additional information.
- Supervise and review staff in the preparation of tax returns, completing workpapers, checklists, and research memos.
- Submit reviewed tax returns on a timely basis.
- Participate in the proposal process and begin training on administrative, practice management, and development matters.
- Provide timely coaching and feedback to staff, assisting in performance evaluations.
- Develop expertise in federal, state, and local taxation rules and understand the firm’s technical standards.
- Comply with continuing professional education requirements.
- Actively participate in firm and community programs, seeking opportunities to expand your professional network.
Requirements
- Accounting/Business (or related) degree preferred.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum 4 to 6 years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated aptitude in quantitative and qualitative research, relationship-building, leadership, project management, and business development.

Pay
Base compensation for this role typically ranges between $100,000 and $130,000, with a generous incentive program and various bonus opportunities that reward exceptional performance.
