About the role
This role involves managing and delivering multistate income and franchise tax compliance and consulting engagements, serving as a primary point of contact for clients, and supporting the development of staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver multistate income and franchise tax compliance and consulting engagements
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on assigned engagements, ensuring timely communication and high quality service
- Coordinate state income and franchise tax return preparation and review processes
- Support state tax planning initiatives for corporations, partnerships, and individuals
- Afford state tax controversy matters, including audits, notices, and appeals
- Perform and review apportionment and revenue sourcing analyses for income and franchise taxes
- Conduct multistate technical tax research to support filing positions, planning opportunities, and client advice
- Maintain and apply state and local tax legislative developments affecting income and franchise tax
- Prepare and review technical memorandums, client correspondence, and internal guidance
- Support tax provision and accrual processes related to state income and franchise tax
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in SALT compliance and consulting processes
- Afford tools, templates, and technology-enabled solutions
- Support tax engine implementation, optimization, and training efforts as applicable
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and thought leadership initiatives related to income and franchise tax
- Manage, develop, and mentor SALT professionals by providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities
- Review work product and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and growth
- Afford engagement planning, budgeting, and workflow management
- Foster a collaborative, client-focused, and growth-oriented team culture
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Qualified to practice before the IRS (i.e. Licensed Attorney, CPA, or EA)
- Minimum of 5 years of State and Local Tax experience with primary focus on income and franchise tax
- Minimum of 1 years in a managerial role involving clients and team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Juris Doctor
- Public accounting experience, preferably with a Big 4 or national firm
- Familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, OneSource, GoSystems, or comparable tax technology platforms
Pay
The compensation range for this position is $128,300-$173,500 for Illinois residents, New York residents, and Southern California residents, and $133,100 - $181, 300 for Northern California residents. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location.
