Tax Compliance
- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities, while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
- Resolves all tax issues with clients and involves specialists as necessary.
- Communicates with clients and Assurance counterparts to resolve issues identified in tax accrual reviews.
- Plans and reviews the tax process, including budgeting and staffing.
- Maintains engagement process, monitoring actual time incurred against budget with assistance of Senior.
- Timely bills clients and manages out-of-scope activity.
- Timely collects accounts receivable.
- Manages client relationships and expectations.
Research
- Identifies when research is needed and clearly reports the analysis.
- Applies most Firm and professional standards for preparing WTA and tax returns.
- Involves firm specialists as appropriate for ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48).
- Explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client.
- Communicates with Assurance counterparts to plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope, and delivery dates.
- Utilizes and manages STS as needed.
Tax Consulting
- Aids in developing and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes.
- Considers the applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client.
- Serves as a technical resource and ensures client service teams comply with Firm policies.
- Provides effective assistance with exam support and frames projects and issues for effective delegation to seniors and associates.
Tax Specialization
- Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation.
- May be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists.
Strategy Development
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel.
- Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action.
- Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on how to improve processes and methods.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains Associates and Seniors on using all current software tools.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
Education
- Bachelor's degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred.
- Masters in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required.
- Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred.
