Job Summary
As a Tax Manager, you will oversee and review financial information for clients, such as business and individual tax returns, with exposure to a diverse client base across various industries.
Job Description
- Tax Strategy and Engagement Oversight
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax planning strategies for clients
- Ensure alignment with financial objectives and minimize tax liabilities
- Manage a portfolio of tax engagements, supervise staff, and review work for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to firm standards
- Maintain engagement progress, budgets, and timelines to meet client expectations
- Coordinate and complete tax research efforts to address client inquiries and resolve complex tax issues
- Research and Analysis
- Stay informed about evolving tax laws, regulations, and industry developments
- Apply knowledge to client engagements and internal training initiatives
- Client Communication
- Communicate complex tax concepts and strategies to clients
- Prepare and deliver presentations on tax-related matters
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients as a trusted advisor
- Compliance and Documentation
- Review and oversee the preparation of tax returns for accuracy and compliance
- Manage tax filing deadlines, extensions, and other compliance requirements
- Stay current with federal, state, and local tax laws and changes
- Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with other tax professionals to share insights, knowledge, and best practices
- Supervise and mentor tax staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback
- Cultivate a collaborative team environment and promote knowledge sharing and effective communication
- Process Improvement and Innovation
- Identify opportunities to enhance tax workflows, processes, and methodologies
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm's tax services
- Ensure compliance with internal quality control procedures
- Strategic Business Development
- Collaborate with partners and senior management to identify business development opportunities
- Cultivate client leads and contribute to the firm's growth strategy
- Participate in proposal development and presentations to prospective clients
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise subordinate team members
Work Environment
- Professional office environment with minimal distractions
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and performing work in front of a computer screen
- Able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
- Travel may be frequent and unpredictable, depending on client needs
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 5 - 8 years of relevant experience
- CPA or Enrolled Agent license (for specialty positions)
- Experience in professional service environments, such as CPA firms, financial consulting firms, or similar settings
- Minimum CPE credit requirement met
Preferred Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree for specialty positions
