Tax Manager Overview

The successful candidate will work directly with the tax staff accountants, other managers, and partners of the firm's Real Estate Services Group. The Real Estate Tax Team focuses on tax credit and tax incentive properties, including low-income housing, historic rehabilitation, New Markets, and Renewable Energy credits as well as Opportunity Zones.

Major Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, review, and complete real estate tax work/tax returns for multiple clients in accordance with Client Service Standards.
  • Utilize extensive foundation of knowledge related to partnership taxation and regulations, as applicable to tax credit real estate properties including tax compliance and consulting.
  • Participate in and/or create practice development opportunities.
  • Identify process and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Assume responsibilities for project management of various client groups, including regular communication with clients and contacts related to tax compliance and consulting.
  • Research current tax compliance and consulting issues.
  • Work closely with and directly communicate with other real estate team members, in addition to client personnel.
  • Absorb responsibility for organizing and serving as an instructor for periodic department-wide technical training.
  • Develop Team Members: Motivate and be respected by subordinates. Demonstrate positive contributions to firm's recruitment, education, development, and retention efforts. Serve as a Mentor, Coach, and/or Career Advocate (if assigned).
  • Provide Team Members with timely and candid feedback supporting the firm's performance management process.

Required Experience/Background/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 9 years of pass-through taxation and compliance experience, including supervision and review experience.
  • Active CPA certification is required.
  • Prior experience with one of the Big 4 accounting firms.
  • Experience with estate tax and high-value clients.
  • Prior experience with pass-through entity tax credits is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel required).
  • Ability to move throughout the office.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 30-50 pounds.
  • Ability to speak English to communicate with clients, team members, etc.
  • Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and client expectations.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Strict adherence to professional ethics.
  • Ability to successfully contribute to the success of a strategic business unit of the firm.
