Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Supervision: Lead tax compliance engagements in accordance with firm and professional standards. Provide training, direction, and supervision to a team of tax professionals, ensuring they are motivated, engaged, and delivering high-quality work. Monitor daily performance of supervisors, driving accountability for best practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Client Relations: Work directly with management and clients to build and maintain strong relationships. Communicate proactively and timely with clients and team members regarding project status, client service opportunities, and other matters. Act as a "further escalation" resource for complex client situations and resolution, supporting the Tax Supervisors.
- Tax Compliance and Review: Review individual (1040), business (1065, 1120, 1120S), nonprofit (990), and trust returns (1041). Ensure all deliverables meet client requirements and are delivered on time. Maintain a strong understanding of changing tax laws and regulations.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving tax compliance and advisory processes. Implement best practices to enhance team efficiency and client satisfaction. Participate in firm initiatives and projects, contributing to the growth and development of the firm.
- Conflict Resolution: Manage significant conflicts within and across teams. Develop and implement conflict resolution processes. Coach others on effective conflict management techniques.
- Developing Others: Lead efforts to develop and empower team members. Create development plans and track progress. Recognize and reward contributions and achievements.
- Administrative Tasks: Ensure all client documentation is accurately recorded and maintained. Perform all other duties as assigned by Company management to support the overall objectives of the organization.
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA in Accounting.
- A minimum of EA certification, plans to sit for CPA (unless already obtained).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience within a public accounting firm.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience preparing/reviewing individual (1040), business (1065, 1120, 1120S), nonprofit (990), and trust returns (1041).
- A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a tax setting.
- A proven demonstration of tax compliance across a broad range of entity types and multiple states.
- Able to effectively supervise, train, and work with multiple teams of 3-4 tax preparers.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple engagements while meeting tax deadlines.
- Strong analytical, supervisory, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and tax preparation and research software systems (CCH is a plus).
- Willingness to work extra hours to ensure the meeting of tax deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications or coursework related to advanced tax strategies or financial management.
