Addison Group is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join a well-established professional services organization in Reston, VA. This hybrid role requires three days per week on-site.
About the role
Oversee the preparation and review of complex individual and trust income tax returns, with a focus on high-net-worth individuals and families. Serve as a technical resource, manage a team of tax professionals, and collaborate with internal advisors on tax planning and client-related matters.
Responsibilities
- Review and assist with the preparation of complex individual and trust income tax returns.
- Manage tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, families, executives, and other sophisticated clients.
- Serve as a technical resource regarding federal, state, local, and international individual income tax matters.
- Research and interpret tax laws, IRS regulations, procedures, and filing positions.
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of three to four full-time tax professionals.
- Supervise and train seasonal tax preparers during peak filing periods.
- Review work prepared by team members and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Support internal advisors with tax projections, planning strategies, and ad hoc research.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on the tax components of comprehensive financial plans.
- Calculate quarterly estimated tax payments and evaluate withholding requirements.
- Prepare responses to tax notices, inquiries, audits, and examinations on behalf of clients.
- Research multi-state tax matters, pass-through entities, foreign income, asset-reporting requirements, and other complex tax issues.
- Communicate tax strategies, risks, and recommendations clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and present educational materials regarding new tax legislation, planning concepts, and emerging tax issues.
- Participate in client meetings and explain complex tax matters in an understandable manner.
- Support special projects and process-improvement initiatives as requested by organizational leadership.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable professional and regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field required.
- Active Certified Public Accountant license required.
- At least 10 years of experience preparing and reviewing individual and trust income tax returns.
- Significant experience supporting high-net-worth individuals, families, executives, or similarly complex clients.
- Previous experience managing, supervising, and developing tax professionals required.
- Strong technical knowledge of individual, trust, and estimated income tax requirements.
- Experience researching and applying federal and state tax laws, IRS regulations, and filing procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-state taxation, foreign income and asset reporting, pass-through entities, sole proprietorships, and expatriate tax matters.
- Public accounting experience.
- Experience with ProSystem fx, CCH Axcess, or a comparable tax preparation platform.
- Experience with BNA Income Tax Planner or similar tax planning software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and paperless document-management processes.

Pay
$140,000 – $170,000 annually, plus an annual performance-based bonus of up to 15%.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
