Tax Intern

About the role

Hilltop Holdings Inc. is seeking a qualified student to join our Tax department as a Summer Intern. This individual will work closely with our Tax team to gain hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn about the various Finance/Accounting/Tax functions under the direction of the Director of Tax
• Support month & quarter end accounting close
• Support strategic planning, including consolidation of inputs and support in long-range modeling and sensitivity analysis
• Aid in quarterly tax accrual preparation, state apportionment compilation and analysis, state tax return preparation, Federal tax return workpapers, and tax settlements
• Perform ad hoc work, including interaction and support of requests from members of the Executive Leadership team
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Rising Senior, pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline preferred
• Some experience (0 – 1 year) is preferred but not required
• Computer hardware, operating system (Windows or Mac), and software/application (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook etc.) skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
• Proven self-starter who can initiate tasks and follow up to completion
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills
• Exceptional analytical skills; above-average attention to detail
• Desire to learn about career opportunities in the Finance/Accounting/Tax areas and/or financial services industry
• Candidate MUST have authorization to work for any employer in the US without requiring sponsorship, whether in student status or not
