Tax Experienced Manager, Alternative Investments
About the role
The Tax Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients. They will lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals, manage the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects, and build and manage client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens. Prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance, while keeping the client's tax and reporting burden as low as possible.
- Tax Compliance Process: Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process. Effectively teams with Principal, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of project (follow-up with Open items list).
- Tax Consulting: Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred. Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
- Experience: Six (6) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required. Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Industry Experience: Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.
- Software Experience: Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred. Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties, preferred. Proficient in tax compliance process software, preferred.
