Tax Experienced Manager, Alternative Investments
About the role
The Tax Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients. They will ensure compliance with all applicable authorities, minimize client tax and reporting burdens, and manage complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
Responsibilities
- Taxes Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens. Prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance.
- Tax Compliance Process: Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process. Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects.
- Tax Consulting: Identifies, develops, recommends, and implements efficient and effective tax strategies. Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages teams of Tax Seniors and Associates. Builds and manages client relationships. Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation.
- Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations).
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties.
- Software Experience: Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, tax compliance process software, tax research databases.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Experience: Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required.
- Supervisory Experience: Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Industry Expertise: Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.
- License/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
- Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills, decision-making skills, capacity to work well in a team environment, capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals, capable of composing written tax advice, capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships, executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.
