Tax Experienced Manager, Alternative Investments
About the role
The Tax Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients. They will ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and they will lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
Responsibilities
- Taxes Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities, minimizes tax and reporting burdens, and keeps client’s tax and reporting burden’s as low as possible.
- Tax Returns Preparation: Prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance.
- Data Collection: Collects all data needed to comply with filing requirements and identifies and properly communicates missing items to prepare return.
- Software Efficiency: Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process.
- Team Collaboration: Effectively teams with Principal, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of project (follow-up with Open items list).
- Client Relationships: Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects, builds and manages client relationships, ensures/Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
- Tax Consulting: Assists with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation.
- Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Experience in the financial services industry supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations).
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties.
- Software Experience: Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, tax compliance process software, tax research databases.
