Think you have what it takes? How You'll Contribute Kaufman Rossin is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate to join our growing Tax Controversy practice. This role is ideal for an early-career tax professional with experience representing taxpayers before the IRS and assisting clients through various stages of the tax controversy process. You will work alongside experienced professionals to resolve complex tax matters while building strong technical expertise and client relationships. Respond to IRS notices and correspondence on behalf of individual and business clientsAssist with IRS collections matters, including installment agreements, offers in compromise, and penalty abatement requestsSupport IRS examinations (audits) by gathering documentation, preparing responses, and communicating directly with taxing authoritiesObtain, review, and analyze IRS transcripts to identify issues and develop resolution strategiesResearch federal tax laws, regulations, and IRS procedures to support client engagementsPrepare professional correspondence, reports, and supporting documentation for clients and taxing authoritiesMaintain organized case files, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of engagementsCollaborate with partners, managers, and team members to deliver exceptional client service while meeting annual billable hour expectations Requirements What Skills You'll Bring 1-5 years of tax controversy or related tax experience, preferably in public accounting or a professional services environmentExperience handling IRS notices, collections cases, and examinationsStrong knowledge of IRS procedures and experience reviewing IRS transcriptsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex tax mattersStrong written and verbal communication skills with a client-service mindsetTime management skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesEnrolled Agent (EA) certification required How You'll Stand Out Tax preparation experience, including preparing Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120-SCPA license or active pursuit of CPA licensureExperience representing clients before the IRSFamiliarity with a variety of federal tax controversy matters beyond notices and examinationsStrong technical research skills and the ability to develop practical, client-focused solutionsA proactive approach to managing engagements and building trusted client relationships Benefits We embrace authenticity.
