Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Tax & Compliance Analyst to manage and support payroll tax compliance processes.
About the role
This is a 6-month contract position with a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on-site in Tampa (33602). Compensation ranges from $35 to $50 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile and file monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll withholding tax returns, including amendments.
- Make EFTPS and other tax payments for state and local entities, processing accurately and on time.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their impact on internal systems and client compliance.
- Ensure clients' tax settings in HCM software are accurate and compliant; perform tax balancing and setup for new and existing clients.
- Resolve client tax issues and inquiries, including responding to time-sensitive notices and following up to ensure resolution and proper communication.
- Identify recurring issues, document trends, and recommend process improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in payroll, accounting, or tax (Master's degree or professional certifications such as CPP or EA are a plus).
- 2-5 years of experience preparing and filing payroll tax returns.
- Solid understanding of federal, state, and local payroll withholding taxes (income tax, unemployment, disability, etc.).
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas (knowledge of macros is a plus).
- Highly organized with strong follow-up and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Basic understanding of creating and maintaining PDF forms is helpful.
