Responsibilities
- Prepare tax returns and verify input for individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, and corporations.
- Aid in the development of personalized tax strategies that align with clients' overall wealth and estate plans.
- Maintain and organize supporting documentation and workpapers in accordance with firm standards.
- Support the training of interns providing tax support during busy season.
- Aid in responding to tax authority inquiries and assisting in resolving tax notices.
- Collaborate with Tax Advisors, Wealth Advisors, Financial Planners, and Investment Advisors to deliver integrated financial solutions.
- Support the preparation of tax projections throughout the year.
- Perform general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and general business services for closely-held business clients.
- Cross-train and be a backup for e-filing, scanning, downloading documents, and assembly/uploading of tax returns.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of relevant tax and/or accounting experience.
- Familiarity with individual and fiduciary tax laws, estate planning concepts, and wealth transfer strategies.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft applications.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and written communication.
- Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive client information.
- A proactive, service-oriented mindset and a commitment to continuous learning.
Overtime Requirements
The Tax Accountant who is full-time and paid on a salary basis is required to work overtime during tax season and is eligible to earn comp time. Please refer to the Waverly Business Services Comp Time policy per the Employee Handbook. The required overtime hours will vary based on workload and may be up to 160 hours during tax season.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
