Responsibilities
- Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns across numerous jurisdictions.
- Review and reconcile sales and use tax accounts.
- Analyze monthly use tax activity and ensure accurate reporting.
- Evaluate purchases for taxability and assess use tax where applicable.
- Research state and local tax laws to ensure compliance.
- Analyze transactions using SAP, purchase orders, and vendor invoices.
- Communicate with internal buyers to obtain documentation and resolve taxability questions.
- Correct jurisdictional tax issues and ensure proper tax treatment.
- Prepare complex journal entries to support month-end close.
- Create and maintain resale certificates for vendors.
- Research tax notices and prepare responses for taxing authorities.
- Assist with federal and multi-state income tax workpapers and estimated tax payments.
- Partner with the company's outsourced sales and use tax provider.
- Provide guidance and training to internal locations regarding sales and use tax compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of sales and use tax accounting experience.
- Experience preparing and filing sales and use tax returns in multiple states required.
- Experience supporting organizations operating across numerous states (40+ preferred).
- Strong understanding of state and local sales and use tax regulations.
- Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Healthcare or multi-location industry experience.
- Experience working alongside external tax providers.
- Previous audit support experience.
Must-Haves
- Multi-state sales & use tax filing experience is required.
- Experience supporting companies with operations in numerous states (40+ locations preferred).
- SAP experience is strongly preferred.
