Job Summary
The Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting with the company's tax compliance, planning, and reporting. This includes federal, state, and local tax obligations, as well as regulatory reporting and risk management. This role contributes to maintaining a strong tax governance framework while optimizing its tax position. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Essential Functions, Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of all corporate tax filings, including income, franchise, sales/use, property, and other taxes.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Track deadlines and help ensure accurate, timely submission of tax returns and estimated payments.
- Support quarterly and annual tax provision calculations and reporting under ASC 740.
- Follow processes to ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Gather documentation for audits with tax authorities and external advisors.
- Drive process improvements and automation in all areas of the tax life cycle.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impact on the company.
- Evaluate tax implications of new banking products, services, and strategic initiatives.
- Work closely with internal departments such as Accounting, Treasury, and Finance.
- Respond to internal requests for tax related data or analysis.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Competencies
- Willingness to learn on the job.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic understanding of Sarbanes Oxley and key internal controls within tax.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency level with Microsoft Excel.
- Competence in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Shows initiative in researching tax issues and asking thoughtful questions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Industry And Work Experience
- 0-2 years of experience in tax, accounting, or public accounting required.
Academic
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Progress toward CPA certification is encouraged.
