Talent Acquisition Planning

Lead the creation of effective recruitment plans for research departments based on operating needs and objectives. Include postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, research scientists, technicians, and other academic research roles. Partner with Hiring Managers to identify appropriate applicant screening and candidate assessment criteria. Develop applicant profiles by studying job descriptions, required and preferred qualifications, work environments, and departmental cultures. Research and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting. Collaborate with compensation, immigration, and/or other appropriate departments to facilitate recruiting efforts as required.

Talent Sourcing

Develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of need by leveraging social, professional networks, industry contacts, association memberships, trade groups, and employees. Develop and implement sourcing methods to find the best diverse research talent by leveraging multiple channels, including but not limited to direct sourcing, internet recruiting, social media, advertising, job and industry career fairs, university recruiting, and competitor contacts. Represent UMass Chan in a professional and collaborative way through involvement with community groups, colleges, and local workforce organizations.

Client Engagement / Service Delivery

Operate with a sense of urgency in attracting high-caliber talent for open positions within UMass Chan. Partner with UMass Chan hiring managers in the medical school to understand hiring priorities based on short and long-term business goals. Support hiring managers in understanding UMass Chan talent acquisition services, policies, and guidelines. In partnership with HR Business Partners, study department termination trends and make recommendations on ways to improve retention. Conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation. Upon selection of final candidate, skillfully present compensation package to selected individuals.

Talent Acquisition Effectiveness

Lead and contribute to talent acquisition initiatives focused on process improvement, technology optimization, and candidate experience. Utilize iCIMS, CRM, and SkillSurvey platforms to manage the recruitment process and ensure positive candidate experience. Strategize with Clinical and Science HR Business Partners to forecast and prepare for upcoming recruitment needs. Prepare and complete reporting using iCIMS to provide Hiring Managers with accurate recruitment data for their positions. Deliver applicant trend and salary expectation insights to the Compensation team. Ensure the effective implementation of talent acquisition processes in accordance with policies, practices, EEO, and other legal requirements. May design and deliver training sessions for hiring managers and others as needed.

Job Knowledge and Relevant Legislation

Update job knowledge and relevant legislation through participation in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. Perform other duties as required.

Required

  • Masters degree in science field
  • Thorough knowledge of research science lab staff requirements and complex procedures needed for candidates in a wide variety of medical-specific research labs
  • 4 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, including 2 years of life science recruiting within a fast-paced, high-visibility research organization
  • Ability to develop a qualified pool of life science candidates by utilizing aggressive sourcing methods and solid talent acquisition and strategic sourcing expertise, including a thorough understanding of best practices, techniques, and technology
  • Direct sourcing and/or social media recruitment expertise
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive hiring practices and the ability to support diversity in workforce recruitment and retention
  • Knowledge and familiarity with relevant Federal and State legislation governing recruitment
  • Familiarity with EEO and Affirmative Action policies and procedures and their application to recruitment strategies
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and applicant tracking system platforms
  • Knowledge of state and federal labor laws
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations

Preferred

  • PhD in science-related field
  • Demonstrated success in utilizing social media tools and resources
  • Proficiency in using the ICIMS Talent Management Platform
  • Experience recruiting in academic medical or research institutions
  • Advanced sourcing certifications (AIRS, LinkedIn Recruiter Certified Professional)
