Tactical Athlete Coach – Swim

About the role
This position is located in Coronado, CA. The Tactical Athlete Coach – Swim will provide instruction and coaching to candidates in the Naval Special Warfare Orientation courses of instruction.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and coaching to candidates in Naval Special Warfare Orientation courses, adhering to the highest standards of conduct in interactions with junior sailors.
- Perform physical testing in accordance with OPNAVINST 6110.1 Physical Readiness Program.
- Meet minimum PST standards within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain these standards yearly.
- Successfully complete the NSW High-Risk Instructor Training Course (HRITC) within 30 calendar days of hire and qualify as a High-Risk Safety and Training Instructor.
- Qualify within BTC NSWO-specific CUIT and ELI requirements.
- Adhere to all NSW Policy, Instruction, and guidance for training evolution guidelines.
- Perform administrative functions, including:
- Accessing and safeguarding Personal Identification Information and Personal Health Information (HIPAA).
- Tracking and recording student performance, testing, and course metrics in the NSW Individual Training and Readiness Management (ITRMS) database.
- Coordinating with NSWO leadership to identify trends and improve student or class performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related physical training field.
- Four (4) years of recent (within the last 6 years) equivalent experience working as a coach or physical fitness leader in a relevant field and environment.
- Successfully complete the High-Risk Training Course (HRTC) or an executive-level HRTC within 30 calendar days of hire.
- Ability to maneuver, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and contractors.
- CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid certification from the American Red Cross.
- Current and valid US driver's license with the ability to operate government vehicles.
- Possess or ability to obtain SECRET Clearance.
- Screened for professional, physical, and psychological suitability for high-risk training instruction.
- Pass random drug testing at least twice annually.
- At a minimum, qualify as an ATV operator and perform related duties.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Task-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of multitasking under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for providing directions and interacting with leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience related to the essential duties and responsibilities outlined for this position.
- One (1) year or more of Swim Coaching experience at a competitive level (Club, Collegiate, or Olympic).
- Additional Swim Coach certifications, including but not limited to:
- American Swim Coach Association Levels 1-3.
- FINA Swimming Coach.
- USA Swimming Coach.
Physical Requirements
- Maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
- Perform physical testing in accordance with OPNAVINST 6110.1 Physical Readiness Program and maintain fitness standards yearly.
- Ability to maneuver, see, hear, and verbally communicate in various environments.
- Visual acuity to review written documentation and hear speech at normal room levels.
Work Environment
- Maintain situational awareness in dynamic environments.
- Support Naval Special Warfare training in hot and cold conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Work indoors and outdoors in settings such as pools, open water, weight rooms, and classrooms.
Schedule
Coaches work daytime hours, but schedules are curriculum-driven and may extend late depending on training requirements.
Pay
$80,000 - $90,000 per year.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, have acceptable background check results, and obtain access to military installations if applicable.
