We are seeking a qualified Systems Technician to design, select, install, maintain, and provide user assistance for personal computer and network equipment, as well as develop interfaces between departmental equipment and other County computer systems.

About the role

The Systems Technician position has two levels:

  • Systems Technician I – Entry-level role. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn County hardware, software, and departmental requirements. This role may advance to Systems Technician II after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency.
  • Systems Technician II – Journey/experienced level. Fully competent in providing user assistance and solving varied problems related to personal computer and network acquisition, installation, and usage. Distinguished from Senior Systems Technician, which is a working lead role.

This examination will establish a promotional list for current and/or future vacancies over the next three months. The Systems Technician I is a training underfill position; upon successful completion of the probationary period (520–2,080 hours worked) and a training program of up to two years, the candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Systems Technician II. Some positions may be non-union.

Pay

  • Systems Technician I: $64,896.00 – $95,784.00
  • Systems Technician II: $69,992.00 – $103,459.20

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Systems Technician I: Equivalent to two years of college-level coursework in computer science, information systems, or a related field, plus two years of full-time experience installing and troubleshooting personal computer hardware and software.
  • Systems Technician II: In addition to the above, one year of full-time experience installing and troubleshooting personal computer and network hardware and software. A four-year degree in an appropriate field is desirable.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.

Licensing and Certification

Specified positions may require a valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment.

Additional Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, which may be conducted periodically after hiring.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers.
  • Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, test, document, and maintain local area network systems; troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Design, install, test, document, and maintain personal computer systems; assist users in determining hardware and software needs; install and customize software; ensure vendor hardware and software function appropriately.
  • Install and maintain communications systems between departmental personal computer and network systems and other County computer systems; troubleshoot problems and ensure proper operation.
  • Upgrade and modify operating systems by installing new vendor releases.
  • Confer with departments to determine information system needs; research vendor hardware and software options; ensure acquisitions coordinate with existing systems.
  • Instruct user department staff in hardware and software operation; ensure proper written documentation and instructions for non-technical users.
  • Provide assistance and instruction to part-time or intern staff; ensure their work is completed appropriately and timely.
  • Maintain accurate records and files related to work performed.
  • Stay current with personal and network hardware and software; recommend acquisitions and upgrades.
  • Contribute to unit efficiency and effectiveness by offering suggestions and participating as an active team member.
  • Use standard office equipment; may drive a motor vehicle or arrange transportation to County work sites for on-site troubleshooting and meetings.

Physical Demands

  • Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment.
  • Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods; ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
