Systems Services Engineer – IT Specialist II

About the role

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) seeks a Systems Services Engineer – IT Specialist II to join our team. This is a 12-month limited-term position that may be extended to 24 months with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain IT systems and infrastructure
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for IT issues
• Implement and manage software updates and patches
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system integration and compliance
• Conduct security assessments and implement security measures
• Document procedures and best practices for IT operations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in IT support or systems engineering
• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
• Knowledge of network administration and security protocols
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Pay

The salary range for this position is $8,625.00 - $11,557.00 per month. The salary may be reduced due to the implementation of the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025.
