About the Role

Axiom Space is seeking a bold and dynamic System Safety Engineer who is fueled by high accountability, execution horsepower, and driven to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, for the benefit of all on Earth and beyond. Responsibilities

  • Conduct system-level hazard analysis for the Axiom Station, Axiom Exploration Extravehicular Activity System (AxEVAS), or payloads on Private Astronaut Missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • Perform and document safety analyses, including Preliminary Hazards Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Hazard Tracking, Functional Hazard, Fault Tree, and Safety Assessments.
  • Generate Hazard Reports.
  • Assist with the definition and maintenance of system-level control strategies, including Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies, hazardous mitigation, and system safety.
  • Participate in and support System Safety Working Groups, Safety Review Panels, Technical Interchange, and Change Review Board meetings.
  • Coordinate with verification and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested at an acceptable level of rigor.
  • Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis, tracking, and resolution verification.
  • Develop Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) reports and presentations for S&MA and program leadership.
  • Provide support to all Axiom programs as required.
  • Communicate project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Implement and maintain agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing and reviewing hazard analyses, fault trees, and safety assessments.
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating flight systems to identify hazards and propose mitigation actions.
  • Experience planning, performing analyses, and reporting results.
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Uses good judgment to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to meet tight deadlines with high-quality results.

Work Environment

  • Generally, an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • This position may require access to export-controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access, which is a condition of employment.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time).
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Use of standard office equipment (PC, phone, printer, etc.).
