Systems Engineer - Risk and Safety

About the role

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and perform reviews of system risks suggesting technical solutions to complex problems.
• Evaluate products and requirements for compliance with our system safety processes and products against internal and external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761.
• Implement and maintain risk and safety processes and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
• Train and coach engineers on identifying and analyzing system risks.
• Work with systems engineering and subsystem cognizant engineers to identify and verify compliance with system safety requirements.
• Aid in generating metrics and reporting on program system status.
• Participate in actively maintaining a healthy system safety culture.

Requirements

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in aerospace/electrical/mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
• Strong system safety, Risk, and mission assurance fundamentals.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

• Supporting the alignment and consistent implementation of New Glenn system engineering practices for system to lower-level program tiers as well as across program systems.
• Developing health metrics to support insight into program health and tracking to major milestones.
