Systems Engineer
About the role
This position is for a Systems Engineer focused on Windows 11 imaging and deployment. The role involves designing, building, testing, and supporting enterprise Windows endpoint solutions for a large-scale, distributed retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and document enterprise Windows 11 reference images and deployment baselines.
- Execute large-scale Windows 11 migrations from Windows 10, upgrades, and refresh initiatives using tools like Microsoft Intune for remote distribution.
- Develop and manage image standards, task sequences, driver packages, and application installations.
- Implement and manage technologies such as vPro for bare-metal provisioning and remote imaging.
- Develop automation for provisioning, imaging, software distribution, and operating system maintenance, with a significant portion of tasks involving PowerShell scripting.
- Serve as a Tier 3 escalation resource for endpoint-related incidents and deployment failures.
- Validate operating system compatibility with business-critical applications and connected peripherals such as printers, scanners, and payment devices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on deployment schedules, risks, and project milestones.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise Windows operating systems.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience creating and managing Windows images and deployment solutions.
- Experience with Windows 10 to Windows 11 deployment, Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, MECM/SCCM, MDT, or equivalent platforms.
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and other related tasks.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, Group Policy, and endpoint security controls.
- Experience supporting physical hardware deployment and validation activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting retail, POS, kiosk, or distributed endpoint environments.
- Knowledge of Windows Update for Business and deployment ring strategies.
- Understanding of TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, BitLocker, and endpoint hardening practices.
- Experience leading large-scale Windows 11 migration programs.
- Familiarity with hardware lifecycle management and vendor certification.
